“The Orinoquía is considered as the most bio-diverse plain in the world"
The Plains are considered as the richest tropical plains in the world. These are the home to a population of approximately 1,300 bird species, of which, 115 are migratory birds and more than 100 mammal species; besides being the home to one of the most threatened reptiles in the planet, the Orinoco Caiman. (Native specie of the region)
The gallery forest is one of the most wonderful panoramas that may be observed in the plains territory, made up by high trees of different species, it conforms a tunnel through the rivers with a permanent flow, whose vegetation, color, and height, is well differentiated form the rest of the landscape.
Like an oasis in the middle of the plains, estuaries, and morichales it becomes a source of life that is important for the flora and fauna of the plains. The estuaries are depressions by the rivers, which are filled with rainwater during the rainy seasons, but that keep part of the water during summer. Water plants such as water lilies and nenuphars and the moriche, canaguaro palm trees, etc, cover the surface of the water, which at plain sight may be confused with a prairie landscape.
This property, with the implementation of the biological path model enables the rehabilitation of ecosystems, through the dynamization of the native fauna that exists in the gallery forests surrounding the rivers. Diverse species depend directly of these ecosystems, thus the importance it has taken, especially during the last years, in the conservation topic. The restoration of the biological paths is designed to increase the habitat and food for the fauna, with the objective of increasing the population and the species in the zone.
